Yosemite National Park is one of my favorite places in the world. I started visiting the park in the 50's with my parents. My collection of images come from two trips; one in the Fall of 2009, and the second from late March in 2017. The water levels were low in 2009 which allowed me to get some interesting pictures, but after numerous years of drought in California, we finally had good snow in 2016/2017, so when I arrived at the end of March, the snow was melting and there was lots of water flowing. You may notice that I altered some of my images from 2009 to style them as paintings or watercolors. I hope you enjoy my Yosemite collection. Yosemite National Park, located in Central California, is part of the National Park Service, within the Department of the Interior. It is situated about 60 miles north of Fresno and about 170 miles east of San Francisco in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. The Park is about 750,000 acers. It has an elevation range from 2,127 to 13,114 feet and contains five major vegetation zones: chaparral and oak woodland, lower mountain forest, upper mountain forest, subalpine and alpine zones. Yosemite is internationally recognized for its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, lakes, mountains, meadows, glaciers, and biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness. In 1864 Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant establishing the Part as the first state park in California. Yosemite's protection predates the first national park by 18 years. By 1890, John Muir led a successful movement to have Congress establish a larger national park, the third in the nation. In 1984 Yosemite was designated a World Heritage Site.
